NDORMS DPhil & MSc by Research

How to apply

The department accepts applications throughout the year. We recommend that, in the first instance, you contact the relevant supervisor(s) or the Directors of Graduate Studies, who will be able to advise you of the essential requirements.

Interested applicants should have or expect to obtain a first or upper second class BSc degree or equivalent, and will also need to provide evidence of English language competence at time of application. The University requires candidates to formally apply online and for their referees to submit online references via the online application system.

The application guide and form is found online and the DPhil or MSc by research will commence in October 2016.

When completing the online application, please read the University Guide and take note of the following:

  • The DPhil course code is 002025 and the Programme description is ‘Doctor of Philosophy in Musculoskeletal Sciences’
  • The MSc research course code is 002035
  • The proposed field and title of research project should have been discussed with the potential supervisor(s) before submitting the application
  • A Statement of Study Plans / Research Proposal should be developed with the help of your potential supervisor to describe a research DPhil or MSc project that you are interested in. A brief personal statement as why you wish to undertake a DPhil or MSc is essential
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV) should be uploaded that includes your final year school results (A-level, baccalaureate or equivalent) and full details of your prior university studies and research experience. If applicable, a comprehensive list of your publications and presentations should also be included.
  • You will need to ensure, in good time, that your three referees are willing and able to write a reference for you. It is your responsibility to ensure that your references are submitted on time
  • University administration requires a single credit card payment of £50 to accompany your application. Unfortunately no other form of payment is acceptable for online applications
  • Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by at least three senior academics and are required to give a 10-minute presentation to the academic panel. The Graduate Studies office will notify shortlisted candidates of the date of the interview. Applicants will need to be available for the interview dates and will have an opportunity to visit the laboratories. For overseas students, interviews can be conducted on Skype only
