COPE: Consortium for Organ Preservation in Europe

COPE logoSusan Dutton and Virginia Chiocchia are supporting three multi-centre trials run by the Consortium for Organ Preservation in Europe (COPE), through SITU.

The LIVER trial compares the efficacy of ex-vivo normothermic machine perfusion with static cold storage in human liver transplantation.

The POMP trial compares 'in house’ pre-implantation oxygenated hypothermic machine perfusion reconditioning after cold storage with cold storage alone in ECD kidneys from brain-dead donors.

The COMPARE trial compares the efficacy of ex-vivo oxygenated hypothermic machine perfusion with non-oxygenated hypothermic machine perfusion of kidneys from donors older than 50 years, donated after circulatory death.

This feasibility study tests a vaccine for preventing recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs) in patients with chronic neurogenic bladder dysfunction.
