The Centre for Statistics in Medicine (CSM) supports medical research from many therapeutic areas, improving how healthcare research is conducted and reported.
We are a team of medical statisticians, methodologists and systematic review specialists. We conduct and support medical research through
- Applied statistical research
- Statistics support and collaboration on specific healthcare projects
- Developing reporting guidelines and monitoring their uptake
- Education and training
As part of our commitment to reducing waste in medical research through improved reporting, we host the UK Centre of the EQUATOR Network, which is the heart of the EQUATOR initiative.
Embedded within the Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Sciences (NDORMS), in the Medical Sciences Division of the University of Oxford, we have close ties with the Oxford Clinical Trials Research Unit (OCTRU).
Along with the Unit of Health-Care Epidemiology, Health Services Research Unit, and Health Economics Research Centre, all of the Department of Public Health, we make up the Oxford NHS R&D Academic Unit.
The CSM was established within the Institute of Health Sciences, Oxford, in September 1995 by Prof Doug Altman. We relocated to the Wolfson College Annexe in April 2005, then joined NDORMS in 2013.
